Raychelle finds inspiration in life’s quirky, awkward moments. With humor and warmth, she turns them into stories that remind both kids and adults that even small missteps can carry big lessons.
She believes that even the smallest, imperfect moments can teach us something valuable about patience, laughter, and growth.
Her books help kids embrace challenges like tying shoes or making friends, showing them it’s okay to stumble and try again.
Hi, I’m Raychelle Fowler—children’s author, school speaker, and confidence-building educator. I believe every childhood milestone deserves to be celebrated, especially the ones that take patience, practice, and perseverance. Learning to tie your shoes is more than a life skill—it’s an early step toward independence, confidence, and self-belief. Through storytelling, school programs, and author visits, I help children develop resilience, emotional growth, and a love of learning—turning everyday moments into powerful confidence-building experiences that support families, schools, and classrooms.
For many children, learning to tie shoes isn’t about ability—it’s about how the skill is taught.
The two-loop “bunny ears” method works because it supports different learning styles, processing needs, and neurodiverse ways of understanding the world. It’s visual, balanced, predictable, and easy to follow—making complex steps feel simple and achievable.
As a mother of two neurodiverse children, it was also important to me that the story reflected children like mine. Too often, visual learners and active learners don’t see themselves represented in books, especially when it comes to learning everyday life skills. Mahlah Ties Her Shoes became my way of saying: your way of learning matters, your journey matters, and your story deserves to be told.
Every workshop, every book reading, every author visit, every child who proudly announces, “I did it!” reminds me why I wrote this story in the first place. Shoe-tying isn’t just about laces—it’s about fine motor skills development, building patience, strengthening self-acceptance, and fostering the confidence a child needs for the next challenge ahead.
